Welcome to the latest Marcus Hayes Calendar Car Collection, celebrating Eoghan’s stunning 1979 Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport.

This isn’t just another classic Escort. It has a story that’s taken it literally around the world.

Originally built in South Africa, the car eventually found its way to Sydney, Australia, where Eoghan bought it completely standard. When the time came for him to move back home to Ireland, there was no way he was leaving the Escort behind, so he shipped it halfway across the world to start its next chapter.

Since owning the car, Eoghan has carefully transformed it while staying true to the spirit of the iconic Mk2 Escort. The front suspension has been upgraded with Capri 2.8 Bilstein components, while the rear now benefits from single leaf springs and Bilstein dampers to improve both handling and stance.

The classic RS touches complete the look perfectly, including the legendary RS rear spoiler, RS steering wheel and RS four-spoke alloy wheels. At the front, four Cibie spotlights and a colour-coded front spoiler give the Escort an unmistakable period-correct appearance that looks just as at home on today’s roads as it would have done back in the late 1970s.

The journey isn’t over yet either. Eoghan already has plans for even more upgrades, including a five-speed gearbox and a pair of twin 40 Weber carburettors, ensuring this well-travelled Escort will continue to evolve for years to come.
