CHECK THIS OUT!! 😃 Gareth Kirkham has been in touch to show us his Dad Niel Kirkham's Mk1 Escort which has a VERY special rally history! 👍
XOO 243F was first registered on the 10th January 1968, making it the first Mk1 Escort to be built as a works rally car! The car only took part in one official event which wasn't until 1969 at the Acropolis rally. It was piloted by Roger Clark and the co-driver was Jim Porter. They finished 2nd overall behind a Porsche despite the fact it went off the road for 12 minutes!
When Niel first acquired the car it was in need of a rebuild and it took him 6 years to restore it! The all steel Lotus twin cam engine has been recently rebuilt by Nick Stagg and is in the correct spec as it would have been back in the day.
This car is now continuing its life as a rally car and is being used by Niel all over the UK and Europe!
What an AWESOME piece of rally history! Im so glad it's still being used as it should be and I want to thank Gareth and Niel for allowing me to share it with everyone! 👍
